We have a big delema coming up, on Christmas eve afternoon we are planning a trip to the movie theatre for a fun afternoon with the kids. The choice is do we go to the Tron movie or the new Narnia. No more Simon or Ellen, now we have J LO and Steven Taylor from AeroSmith. It will be interesting to see how the new show does when it starts on January 19th.

I have had a week full of long days and it sure is starting to catch up with me. doggie do's

I woke up this morning to a pile of dog pee in 3 different places in the house, it was so disappointing as the dogs were let out before I went to bed last night at 11pm and then I let them out again in the middle of the night when they came whining. Bummed out

I had a really rotten day at work and now I find myself in a funk that I don't know how to get out of. I guess the smartest thing would be to go to sleep for the night and start fresh in the morning. The bad thing is there is laundry to be done and the kids need to get their supper and homework done. Suck it up buttercup and get to work.

Golden Party

We recently had a birthday costume party for my son Blake for his birthday and it was a lot of fun to see all the kids dressed up. I even got in on the fun with a costume that was lent to me from a co-worker. I got to be a pirate and I really looked the part, Blake even found me an Eye patch out of his play things from his room to complete the look. The kids kept looking for my buried treasure of gold coins and silver, and if I had of thought of it I could have got some toy coins to play along with them. School Pictures

The kids arrived home from school with their new pictures, we even took Jay from JNR. High to the kids school to get his done their instead so we had the same background for everyone. The pictures turned out really good and the kids are looking so grown up. Of course the kids pictures were wasting no time getting into the wall frames. It might cost quite a bit to get the pictures but it is really worth it when you get good pictures from a photographer that cares about what he is doing.

Bummer

I was looking to a nice quite evening with my wife, the kids were going to bed early after a long week and we were planning on getting off to a nice early bed night ourselves. Unfortunetly her work had other plans and now she has been called into work for the night. She will be home around 2am and I have to go to work for 7am so it doesn't leave much quality time for us tonight. At least she is off tommorrow but we have family night planned out with the kids to the movies and then we are back into our week routine of business. Not much time for rest and relaxation for us this weekend :0(

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas

In our house as soon as Halloween is over it's on to Christmas, the Pumpkins and Witches hit the tote for next year and the Garland and tree come out for decorating. Chase Tightens

Well here we are it's now Friday and on Track activities are heating up at Texas Motor Speedway. The Chase is down to 3 drivers, 3 races and let the best (or luckiest) team win. We did see some momentum swing last week at Talledaga but not the big swing many expected. The save of the week would have to go to the 29 team who got wrecked, saved the car and perservered to almost win, settleing for second place. A shame with the win the top 3 would be within 23 points of each other now that would be really exciting for the hype of this week. We will have to see where the teams are after Sunday to see if there can be any excitement for the last 2 weeks of the season.

Party Central

We had a birthday party for Blake over the weekend and of course because of the time of year it had to be a costume party for Halloween. He was pretty excited to have a party with all his friends from school. We rented the hall and set up crafts, games and snacks and everyone had a ball. It was great fun and he loved going out shopping for some lego sets with his money he had from his gifts. He was even smart and put $100 away in his bank to save.

Ay Matie, where's my gold

Halloween is just around the corner and my son decided he would like to dress up as a pirate this year. New Helper at work

Yesterday the kids had the day off school which threw us for a bit of a curveball. Normally on Friday my wife has Zumba and didn't want to miss. But Kohl didn't want to go, so he came down to work and helped out with our fundraiser for Christmas daddies that we were having. He had a great time serving popcorn to the kids and helping getting everything set up. He also got the lunch room ready for everyone and set up the drinks and snacks. A very busy day indeed, brings back memories from a few years ago when he would help out when his baby brother had doctor appointments.

Mr. Mom

What would you think if your father in law showed up wearing this to the camp ground. Always looking to create some comedy moments he decided to try on a pretty bathing suit and added the touch of the pink hat. He approached a couple of French gentleman walking down the road to the beach and tried to have a conversation with them. What a laugh they couldn't get away from them fast enough. He's already warned us that next year will be the bikini watch.

It's back...mushroom melt

Oh I love this time of year, my favorite snack is back the bacon mushroom melt from Wendy's. It seems like all year we wait for this yummy bacon, cheese burger with mushroom delight. I hope every year that it will stay on the menu but every year I get disappointed and it disappears. It's one of those things you have to enjoy it while it lasts.

We found a new favorite treat while out at the grocery store last weekend we came across a sample booth that was giving out bites of the new Mr. Big Snack Cakes. They were delicious and even better they were on sale 2 for $5 and had a coupon for 75 cents off each box. We were in chocolate heaven all weekend, yummy!

The whole ten yards

I haven't seen this movie yet but loved the original whole 9 yards staring Bruce Willis and Matthew Perry. It's boarder line moronic but the story is pretty funny, I'm now sitting here on a Sunday Afternoon and found the whole 10 yards on TV so I think it should be a fun afternoon, I can't wait to see how this one turns out.

Snow Suit Deals

Well I found a great deal today, we were out shopping for new ski suits for the kids and the mall had a promotion on that if you spent 150 on any Sunday in October you would get 2 movie passes for the local theatre. Now also the SportChek had a promotion that gave you a $50 gift card for buying snow suits over 250. So we got 2 snow suits for the kids and got the gift card for my wifes snow suit and 2 passes for the movies. I think we got a pretty good deal overall, now next Sunday we will go get my wifes ski jacke and save the $50 and get 2 more passes for the movies and another $50 card to start it all over again. Love to save.

I find it so incredible what big business can get away with, you would think with all the supposed agencies that are created to ensure products go through strict testing before it hits the market that we still find out that many of the drugs that are made to help people actually make things worse. I read recently about Trasylol lawsuit that have started to be filed. Trasylol is a drug that is used to control blood loss in heart surgeries but recently use of this drug has been linked to kidney damage, heart attacks and even strokes. Another drug that has been linked to lawsuits is for the drug Accutane. Accutane Lawsuit have been filed and some settlements have been issued. Accutane is a drug used to treat cystic acne and has been linked to Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Crohn's Disease. There are so many other examples of drugs that have been meant to help to only find out later they cause more damage than good.

Kitchen Renovations

After nearly a year of renovations on our kitchen we are finally nearing the end of our project. Now mind you we took about 6 months off to save up some more money but again it is almost done. We got the last of our doors from the local millwork store yesterday and are in the process now of staining and varnishing them. We are hoping to get them hinged tommorrow and than we will only have the drawers left to build, which we bought the parts for today. It will be so nice to finally have the kitchen finished once and for all.

Hallowen Decorations

It is that time of year again, we love so much around our house as we have young kids. The Halloween decorations have been brought out of storage this weekend and we are setting them all up between today and tommorrow. Halloween is such a short season though and come November 1st we will be converting over to our most favorite season Christmas. This year we have all new Christmas Decorations changing from our blue and silver decorations to brown and gold, I can hardly wait for November

It is that time of year when all the new TV shows get started, I am wondering what show is your most anticipated in this new season? Airplane enjoyment

I got to go away for a meeting this week and as usual to get their I had to take my favorite form of transportation Airplane. I shouldn't complain I guess years ago we had to drive down and it would take about 7 hours. I just can't get used to flying and always feel sick and get a head ache from the flight. I made it down and back so I should be ok for the next 6 months until we get to year end and have to go back down.

What happened to my day

It's like it happened overnight, I was out with the kids tonight and it was dark by 7pm. I guess that means that summer is officially over and before long we will be back to it being dark in the morning when we get going and it will be dark when we get home. That is a bit of a depressing period for me but I know once we get to New Years the days will start to get longer again.

Off for business

I have to go away for three days for a meeting, I not a big fan on being away with our lives being so hectic but it is a necessary part of the job occasionally to go. It makes it harder on my wife as she has to take a couple of nights off work as I won't be around for the kids. I think this will be my last meeting this year so that will be nice to not have to travel through the winter time months.

I am just finishing watching a new episode of American Chopper, this season it is Jnr. vs Snr. as the shops have divided and Jnr. has gone out to start his own shop. One week in

One week after joining the tzone and with watching what I'm eating and adding in some exercise I have lost 4 lbs. That was awesome for the first week, I am hoping to get the same results this week. It was important to hit things hard and get organized, I read it was also important to get the correct amount of sleep and lot's of fluid so I am making sure to get to sleep earlier and keeping track of my water intake. It really takes a lot of work to keep everything in balance so here we go.

It is exciting that the kids are very excited to get back to school, it was a great summer and the kids had a great time but now it is time to get back to routine. It was fun for the kids because that meant we got to do some extra back to school shopping that we weren't planning on but that was ok, they loved the new outfits.

Tzone fun

My wife and I joined a new TZone gym this past week and are really enjoying out time there. It is a different exercise routine that takes 10 minutes and is supposed to give you a 1 hour workout. We mulitiply it by walking to and from the tzone which takes about 2 hours in total. It's a great workout and we are really feeling results.

OOPS, Where have I been?

I'm really sorry, I have been super busy lately, my wife wanted to by a treadmill and I figured if we were investing money on this thing I was going to make sure it good used. Together we have been on this thing atleast 3-4 hours a day, everyday since we got it. I am feeling great and it really is giving me lot's of new found energy. I have lost over 4 lbs since last week and my wife is a little over 3 for the week so it is certainly paying off. We are trying to make better choices in our grocery orders and watching what we get if we are eating out. We are working on this together and that is really the only reason we are going to be successful at it. My wife is a great motivator watching her work hard makes me want to work hard and having her support as a partner on this is really great. Getting healthier together...priceless. I am going to try and get back in my routine of posting regularily sorry to all those regular visitors.

Back to school

It's that time of year when we need to start getting the kids ready for bts, this is quite a process by the time you get the sneakers, supplies and a new outfit it sure adds up quick. With 3 in school and one going next year, luckily they are still young and aren't influenced by the cool stuff and we can still by their sneakers etc at the discount retail stores. They don't need Nike, Addidas etc yet, I certainly sympatize with the parents who are at that stage. Only a couple of weeks left and they will all be set for another year.

Vacation Fun

Kohl is enjoying some time away with his Grandparents, they have been keeping him very busy with trips all over the place. The other day brought a trip out to see a friendly donkey and to have a little ride around the barn. I heard they are planning another trip out this week on a nicer day when they will be able to get outside for a better ride. Good luck buddy!

Biking Fun

The boys got their bikes out at Grandpa's for the first time this year, unfortunetly we don't have a good area for biking around our house so they were excited to take their bikes for the trip. Blake even managed to convince me to take off his training wheels and give him a chance. He still has some work to do but there were signs that he was getting the hang of things by the end of our visit.

Twilight

The house has gone Twilight crazy, counting down until we get to go to the theatre to see the latest instalment "Elipse". We are sharing the book around the house so everyone can get a chance to read the story and watching the other 2 movies over and over to get caught up before we go. It should be pretty exciting, we are going as part of our grading day celebration to the kids, dinner out and a trip to the theatre they are supper excited.

Water Dogs

With the pool up and getting used the other day it was pretty warm and the dogs looked like they needed a cooling off. We tossed them in and they went for a swim, they aren't used to the water so they weren't too sure of themselves. Once they got out they of course went right to rolling around the grass and getting themselves muddy.

It's finally gone

Last fall we decided to chop down our Apple Tree, it was huge and the trunk split so we didn't have much choice. It also produced terrible apples and thousands of them that filled our entire yard most of the summer. We have spent the last couple of weekends burning up the trunk and finally made some significant progress this weekend. The stump is acutally gone now and all we have to do is finish filling in the hole left behind oh yeah and plant some grass.

What a weekend

My wife has suggested we get a patio table for the last couple of months, trying to spend more time in our yard and together as a family. I decided to pick one up Friday on my way home for the weekend as a surprise. It was quite comical really as we were meeting at the pool after work and I had the set in the back of our van. When we finished swimming I was going to sneak it home and set it up as a surprise. She surprised me as she decided to send 2 of our boys home with me instead, I had to rearrange everything in the parking lot hoping she didn't see me. We made it home and got it set up shortly after before she arrived home. It was great and we had a fantastic family bbq Saturday night.

Toy Story 3

It seems like it has been forever since the last toy story movie and yes finally this year the next installment is coming out. Luckily I still have kids young enough to give me an excuse to go see one of my favorite movie franchises of all time. I can't wait to see what happens to Woody, Buzz and the gang. I'm glad they grew up Andy as it really has been that long and I think the new setting of the daycare will ad some fun to the mischief, can't wait until June 18th.

All star extravaganza

This weekend brings us the annual Nascar All Star Event, there has been much debate over the expectations of this race and whether it really is an all star event. Many of today's top stars are going into the event unqualified for the race because they haven't won a race in the last year and a half while other drivers that haven't been competitive for years qualify because of things in their past like winning the event before or being a former champion. Exciting Race

I got to sit and watch the Nascar race from Taledaga, I have to say it was one of the most exciting races I have seen in a long time. It started out exciting with a lot of action and great drafting in the early laps right until the end with 3 green white checker finishes. It was exciting to see Harvick re-enter Victory Lane after so many great races and close finishes this year. I am looking forward to many more great races this year and anyone that hasn't been watching lately really needs to tune in again as it really is some of the best racing I have seen in years.

flooring Surprise

My wife was away all of last week with the kids at a dance competition, leaving me and two of the boys home for the week. We decided we wanted to do something for her that would be a surprise and special. I knew she was planning on coming home with enough money to finish the new flooring in the living/dining and our bedroom so I decided to go out and buy it early and get it done for her when she got home. It looks great and I was finishing the last couple of pieces just as she was pulling into the driveway.

We all decided to head to the movies today, it was time to learn how to Train our Dragons of course in 3D. I figured it would be a cute movie but was surprised about how good it really was, it was entertaining from start to finish with a great story to boot. I would definetly recommend this movie to anyone even if you weren't a kid it has a great story.

park day fun

I took the kids to the park tonight after a busy Easter day, it was the perfect way to finish our day. Jay stayed home as he was getting ready for a night out with his friends but everyone else came with us. The kids had a good time together and enjoyed the 3 lane slide so they could try out some races. I think it was pretty even for the most part.

Back on the Renovation Band Wagon

It's that time of year when I need to come out of my hibernation and get back onto my hobby of renovation projects. The first project of the year is removing carpet out of our laundry/family rooms and replacing it with wood floor. I got a start on it today and will spend the holiday weekend finishing up the project hopefully on time and budget! It will be great to be rid of this light colored carpet that was always being tracked over with food and dirt. Rule #1 with kids DO NOT have light colored carpets.

Rock, Paper, Scissor...Dynamite?

Here's a new twist on the game, my son asked me to play Rock Paper Scissor the other day and while we were playing he gave me a new move that blew me away...literaly. After a couple of losing rounds he was getting a little frustrated so I threw up the Rock and he countered with the ....Dynamite, yes he made this one up a fist with the thumb up and then down to detonate. Just so you know Dynamite beats Rock and Paper so it increases your odds, scissors beats Dynamite because it cuts off the fuse.

Have you seen the new Rim Roller device to help you roll up your rim on your favorite Tim Horton Coffee Cup. I saw these today at the local Zellers Store and they are being sold for 2.49, this is an interesting marketing gimmic on one of the best marketing promotions in Canada. This little divice goes down over the side of you cup and when you pull it up it cuts the sides and pull up the rim to reveal your play again (oops I mean prize). Real or Fake?

Got your attention now don't I...I am talking about plants, what preferance do you have? I would have to say I prefer the look of live plants with the exception of the maintance of them, sometimes the plants around here end up a little brown before we remember to water them,LOL. My favorite plants would be ones that remind me of my childhood, my Grandmother always had this great big Christmas Cactus that always bloomed beautiful pink flowers. My mother always had a collection of Spider Plants I always thought they were neat with the little baby spiders growing. It can bring back great memories when I see either of those plants, I had a Christmas cactus for years and I put it through a ton of punishment with many moves and eventually it died. I have never got a spider plant and one day maybe I'll get one of those in the house.

Hands Free

Recently it was announced that our province of Nova Scotia will be going hands free as of April 1st this year. What's your opinion on this? I personally would have to admit to having used the cell phone while driving more than once and will certainly agree it is a distraction from the road. I think it is a great idea to eliminate the temptation to use the phone while driving. I got caller display on my phone so if it happens to ring while driving I can either pull over and call back or wait until I get to where I am going before answering. There are other great ideas to like the blue tooth that you can use so you can talk and still keep your hands where they need to be. Sometimes though even the conversation can be the distraction depending on what the situation is so that one is pretty hard to police how do you ban speaking in a vehicle. Give me your opinion on this topic, I would love to hear different views.

I'm going for a nap

How do you get exhausted, here is my scenerio, work for about 55 hours for the week while your wife is away and looking after the kids too. Thank God for school it allowed me to work at least as I couldn't take a vacation week. Things will hopefully get back to normal next week as my wife is supposed to be returning home today. Now she did take my daughter and youngest son with her. (He is the handful, doesn't go to school yet and has too much energy) I am sure she will be tired out when she get's home tonight. I am looking forward to celebrating the big dance competition wins my daughter is bringing home and once the kids are in bed for the night curling up with my missed wife for a great nights rest.
