Shopping for Christmas

My father in law recently purchased a new(new to him) Honda Shadow now of course he is hard to shop for when it comes to Christmas so we decided this year that we would get him some accessories for his bike. The one big thing he needed was a set of saddlebags so he can carry things with him. He likes to take the bike to work and needed something to carry his launch in.

Scrapping Time

Well this morning was the first day this fall that I had to scrape windows in the van. Of course not quite prepared the scrapper was in the basement so I had to dig around in there first to find the scrapper. I guess it's a sign of things to come over the next few months. brrrrrr.

Looking for a change of pace

It's going into December here now and it is absolutely freezing out, everyday it gets a little colder and I even saw some white flakes of snow here the other day. I have been considering a new career and would like to relocate somewhere a little warmer so I can enjoy my days. Looking into different beauty schools I am thinking about looking into beauty schools in arizona, I think it would be a great area to live and would be able to take advantage of watching my favorite MLB team the DiamondBacks. I really enjoy working with people and think I would enjoy helping people feel good about themselves and teaching them techniques to make their life easier. Christmas Party

Normally I take the Christmas party in as an obligation, as I don't drink very often as I usually feel pretty crappy after I do, even a couple. The party went over pretty well and I was surprised by my wife as she was up dancing most of the night, having fun was nice to see as normally we just sit around at the party. I think we are starting to get comfortable with the staff as we are hoping to stay here for a while after 8 transfers we are tired of moving.

Wall-e

Seeing as we were going to my works Christmas party we decided to get the kids a new movie to watch with the sitter to get them excited for us to go our for the night. They were pretty excited to see me come home with Wall-e for them to watch. They hadn't seen the movie yet other than Blake that watched a few minutes at the store the other day but they loved the movie and it made the time go by very quick for them by the time it was over the 2 younger boys were ready for bed. They have warned me that we will be watching it again tonight when I get home from work and my wife goes to work.

Christmas is counting down

I can't believe it is only 34 more days until Christmas, the days are flying by so fast and my Christmas list isn't getting any smaller, it actually seems to be getting bigger if anything. Pay day is coming soon so I am hoping to get a lot of things picked up then. I find it a bit more hectic this year with my wife working and the kids in activites almost every night of the week it is harder to get organized.

With the time constraints we are facing this year with my wife working and trying to get all the kids around to their activities I have to find ways to help my time crunch. I can only imagine the absolute disaster in the LA area which is seeing over 10,000 people evacuated as the LA Wild Fires rip through the San Fernando Valley. Christmas is Coming

We are slowly trying to get to get ready for Christmas around the house, normally we are all decorated by now but this year has been a bit different with my wife working time seems to be hard to come by. After watching the Nascar Sprint Cup event from Pheonix this weekend it was embarassing watching Jimmie Johnson take the rest of the field to school and totally dominate. It's almost like watching a bike race with the field riding around on pedal bikes and 1 star zooming through on a motor bike. Jimmie can do basically anything he wants at this point and no one can touch him. To listen to him complain about a 15th place finish last week sets the tone of how much his team has come to expect from performance. Next week we will see the formality of JJ running around the track for a while, most likely dominating the field and claiming his 3rd championship in a row. Girls night out

The breaking release of High School Musical 3 is today so I had to go to the theatre and buy some tickets for my girls to go see this movie. It's all I've heard about for the last few weeks. My daughter was very excited that she and Mom would be able to go tonight, just them for a girls night. What's next

Going Home For Halloween

Now that my wife has been working full time this has brought many chances to our family. We are working opposite shifts which allows for one of us to be with the kids but this doesn't make for much time together as a family. Our youngest son will be celebrating his 4th birthday on November 1st and we will be going home to be with family during the Halloween weekend to have him a party. We are really looking forward to this time away with the kids and I know they are looking forward to it also.

White or Chocolate

The kids recently came home with a milk order for school, now keep in mind that both white and chocolate have the same nutritional value so if kids will drink chocolate why not encourage them to drink it. The price for mile .25 for white and 1.00 for chocolate, why because the government subsidizes white milk sold into the schools but not the chocolate. It's just frustrating knowing the kids would prefer but the cost is so incredibly out to lunch you can't pay the difference.

Moving, Storage and Transport

With moving around so often we have become pretty familiar with the different moving services available and luckily for us all our moves went really smooth which prevented a lot of stress. With having a large family and lots of toys in the barns some of our moves needed some special storage and not to mention bike transport which was great, this is a u-pack moving where you pack the items or items and they drive. The weekend is finally here

It is Friday once again and time to enjoy some time off. Starting to get busy

Tonight was the first night of our new busy fall schedule, my wife had to take my daughter over to her big dance night. This was my first night with the 3 boys and it was a challange, we had to finish up homework, have supper, take the puppy for a walk and to wind down watch a movie. My wife is thinking about returning to work in the evenings so it was good for me to get a trial run to see what it will be like with the boys. I have a few ideas on how to better interact with them now to get the behavior we expect from them.

Crank the Heat

It is chilly here tonight, I find myself turning to the electric fireplaces to take the chill off. I'm very glad we managed to get a few of these heaters for the house last year, we have 5 in the house now and they are all over the place. They are fantastic because the blow the heat out so you can get warm quickly and they also heat up the room quickly. Another great thing about them is that they don't run on oil, like the rest of the house.

Sports Fan

It's fun being a sports fan and while travelling around it's great to try and take in whatever sports the local area has. I'm thinking about planning a trip down to Miami next year and with my son being a huge basketball fan I thought we might try to get our hands on some Miami Heat tickets. It would be our first big NBA game live and I think it would be a fun experience. I thought all dog's naturally loved the water but my sookey wasn't so sure about things when we took her to the beach and put her in, she swam for the floaty board and hopped right on up, and wasn't getting off for anything. She was cute with the panicky look in her eye as she was swimming along.

While camping we had the chance to see lot's of nature, one of the little creatures we got to see was the duck crossing. One cool thing about living by the ocean and sea ports is the awesome ships that arrive in port. The other day a cruise ship arrived in dock for the day and it was a very impressive site to see it pull into dock. This is a picture we got by our home of the ship coming in. Road Construction

ERRRR., that's all I can say, when you leave my house to go to work, I have 3 ways I can go to get there and all three ways I encounter road construction that slows things down. A welcome Vacation

I am planning on taking a vacation next week from work. This is the first year I have had 5 weeks of vacation from work. I normally take my vacation at the same time each year, March Break, a week in May and 2 weeks in the summer so this is a welcome change. I now will ad a week in September after the kids get back to school, this will allow me to spend time around the house to work on some projects and get ready for winter. I am excited for this time to spend with my Wife and our youngest son whom isn't in school yet.

The Next Federal Election

What do you think about the upcoming federal election, will the Tory party continue on as the reigning government or will the Liberal, NDP or Green party make a run at it. The gloves have come off as we saw a Tory campaign which showed a bird deficating on Dion's shoulder, it has been a harsh start to things. I am interested to see what campaign promises will be made. There has to be some discusssion of tax breaks for the general public to make some interest. I will be watching closely, Mr. Harper, don't let us down we need gas tax breaks and improved benefits for our children.

Struggling with storage

It's funny how much differance a year can make, when we moved into our new house last summer it was twice the size of our old home. Now in our other house everything had it's spot and we had room to live. After being in our home for a year we have never gotten to the point where everything has a spot. We arrived home after a day of fun, the kids had bible camp this morning and we went to a movie " Kung Fu Panda " this afternoon and then we went shopping for some dance gear for the kids to start back to classes. When we got home tonight and had supper we went into the basement and noticed it was full of water. It had been raining since early afternoon and the pump was accidently left unplugged which means it doesn't work very well. I got it plugged back in and the water has receeded so it's time to let things dry out.

A day off

I am getting a day off tommorrow and it is definetly needed, it has been a busy week. I am hoping the weather is nice as it has rained her the last couple of days and makes it yucky. The kids are going to bible camp tommorrow morning and I am going to work my 2nd job at the "Spooky Mansion" as the kids call it, where I'm helping a friend demo the inside of a huge 3 storey home. Seafood Delights

Living on the east coast there is so much emphasis on the sea, even when it comes to our food choices. The Fishing Industry is such a big part of our history and culture that you see it embedded in our culture. There are so many great seafood dishes to try it is incredible for the taste buds. One of my favorite is a very simple dish created with Salmon. You would start by baking a salmon of course heavy on the butter and coated with a garlic seasoning and chive. The other end is rice cooked with a bit of soya sauce in the water and a package of onion soup mix as well. Really simple. You serve the salmon over the bed of rice which you can ad other veggies of your choice if you so desire sometimes we will cook up some red or green peppers and chopped onion to add to the dinner. I think it might still need a little work to compete with the greats at the cook off's but it is a favorite of our's. What are some of your favorite seafood dish I would love to here from you for some new ideas. Getting into more renovations

I hear we are moving onto the downstairs bathroom for more renovations. I guess I really figured it out when my wife came in after I cleaned the bathroom and began ripping the wall paper off the walls. We worked on it for about an hour and had all the trim and wall paper down. I will have to fill in the holes and we will give it a fresh look with some new paint and boarder this time. Living on the East coast you have to be a seafood lover, recently I discovered a contest to win a trip to New Orleans for a wonderful experience filled with lots of fine dining. Puppy Training

Finally after almost 2 months we are starting to see some improvement with our puppy. She now will most times will go down to the front door and whine or scratch at the door. Mind you she doesn't give much warning so if we are not right on top of her she will leave her deposit at the front door for us to clean up but at least it is there and not all around the house. Anyone with success stories or tips to help us more would be greatly appreciated.

At the beach

WE visited the Cape Tormintine beach while away on vacation and wondered how everyone would get along. It was great watching them run around the beach together and it was really a great experience. This day was filled with sand castles, playing in the water, and playing in the water. One of the exciting events we had at the campground as part of Kohl's party was Crazy shirt/had day. Although it was a bit wet all the kids had a great time trying on Nana's collection of crazy shirts and hats. Look, 2 wheels

Kohl was bugging as he is turning 6 to get his training wheels off his bike, we took them off and Nana and Mom worked with him for an hour or so to get him comfortable with balancing his weight. He was very proud of himself for accomplishing this and by the next day he was doing very good. He had a few spills and war wounds but he thought they were all very cool and kept on trucking.

We had the opportunity to re-unite our puppy with her Mom while visiting with my family. They had a few moments of tense feelings but after a few minutes they were playing and having a great time. They even curled up together for a rest, it was very sweet to watch them interact with each other.

The sky's opened Up

Wednesday night the sky's opened up with a huge thunder and lightning storm and a down pour. Little did we know that this was a sign of things to come for us over the next few days as we got a lot of rain. We managed to entertain ourselves inside the tent with some coloring, Nintendo DS and a few games of rock paper scissor as Carrie went down to the laundry area to catch up our dirty clothes and wet towels.

When we got up one morning we had an unexpected visitor in our van. This little bird must have flown into the van in the evening while we were getting things out of the back hatch. He was in the van all night and certainly left his mark on the van with little droppings all over the place. Here's another character that joined us last week on vacation, the chicken man. Carrie's uncle Brian joined our camping crew on the weekends and one day he arrived with the cool chicken hat. This chicken hat provided quite a bit of entertainment for the crew all weekend long. The Chicken hat moved from person to person through the course of the weekend but no one wore it quite as good as Brian.

New Vacation Toy

We try to get a new vacation toy for the kids every year, this year we got what's called a water trampoline, it can be used on land or in the water. A great family vacation

What a great vacation we are planning, with 4 kids it's been hard to get our big family vacation into disney world. Now that we are finished having babies and our youngest is getting to the age that he will also enjoy the trip we are starting to plan our family trip. We are searching for Disney tickets for all the fantastic attractions that are available, we are thinking as this is a once in a lifetime trip for us we are going to make it a 2 week trip to ensure we take in every possible attraction, ride and dining experience available to be had. We are getting very excited about the upcoming trip.

Well we are getting back from vacation so it's time to start getting all the updates and pictures on-line to share. Here is a picture of our puppy getting ready to go, this was her first big trip with us and she did really well with the trip. Laptop vs desktop

We bought a lap top in the spring to have a second computer in the house and felt it might get used a bit but we never realized how much we would actually use it. Our other computer is only 1 1/2 years old and still works well but now everyone wants to use the "Lappy". I would have to say for every 10 hours of computer use in our house the lap top is used 9 hours compared to desktop. I couldn't imagine not having one and we are planning on getting another lap top to replace the desktop as soon as possible.

Laundry Job

How often do you have to do laundry around your house, we usually will do 2 loads a day. Which isn't too bad considering we have 6 in our family. We aren't too fussy on our laundry soap but recently started using Tide to wash. We generally always tried to use the cheapest stuff we could find but I really prefer the Tide and yes I do Laundry, probably about 1/2 of what we do.

My wife has been out of the work world for the last 4 years, she recently decided that she would like to return to work now that the kids are starting to get a little older. I think it is a fantastic idea because sometimes it is difficult to be home all the time with little kids around. Baby sitter

It's surprising how hard it is for us to actually get a sitter for the kids and go out on a night just my wife and I. With our anniversary coming up in a couple of weeks, I am hoping we will be able to get someone we trust with the kids so we can go for a while by ourselves. A treat for me

My wife has been working very hard on getting in better shape, now mind you it's not like she was in bad shape to begin with but she has her own insecurities. She is really showing progress in her self confidence this year and the crowning achievement in this process is the fact that she actually went to the store and tried on bikini's (1st success), actually modelled them on to me (2nd success as I have never seen her in one) and finally she actually bought one for our upcoming trip. :0) I must say it's exciting not only from a husband point of view to have a beautiful wife but I am very proud of her for being able to strut her stuff.

Camping Crazy

Tonight was the last night we really had to get ready for our big week camping trip. Being in a family of 6 it takes a lot of preperation to get ready to go. My wife makes a complete checklist of everything we might need for the trip and checks it off as it gets loaded into the van. Luckily as of right now (exhaustion time) I see way more hi-lites than blank spots. We are hoping to leave Friday Morning / Afternoon so I would say we're doing well. Wish us luck.

I have recently found it is time to start looking to further my education. I had completed my high school and completed a partial bachalour degree before I began my family and moved onto my working career. It is incredible how fast years will go by and now it is time for me to still meet my family obligations while continueing my education. To make up it work I had to find alternatives to traditional schools because I still need to continue my work to provide for the family. Puppy Blues

We are working with our new puppy on house training. It has been a challange for us as we have never had a dog before and really don't know what to do with her. It is extra hard because we have 4 small children and they like to be active and get her running around. She get's excited and has accidents, a month in and we are starting to make progress but the next dilema we are going on vacation for 2 weeks, we are hopeing she will be good when we get home.

Getting ready for Vacation

What are you doing for vacation this year? I'm heading off with the family this weekend to spend a week on the beach camping. This has become a bit of a tradition for us, I believe this is our 3rd year going to this particular camp ground. It is relaxing and the kids enjoy the camp fires, access to the beach and of course trips to the treat store in the evening. What's your process for getting ready for a night out and how do you protect yourself from meeting the wrong person. I'm sure if you've ever gone out to a bar, party or club you have been hit on by some lame ducks. When we were at the beach the other night I snapped this shot of my wife looking out into the water at sunset. Hands free for life

Many areas are becoming hands free while driving . What's your opinion on this? I personally would have to admit to having used the cell phone while driving more than once and will certainly agree it is a distraction from the road. I think it is a great idea to eliminate the temptation to use the phone while driving. I got caller display on my phone so if it happens to ring while driving I can either pull over and call back or wait until I get to where I am going before answering. There are other great ideas to like the blue tooth that you can use so you can talk and still keep your hands where they need to be. Sometimes though even the conversation can be the distraction depending on what the situation is so that one is pretty hard to police how do you ban speaking in a vehicle. Give me your opinion on this topic, I would love to hear different views.

Vacation is coming

Only 2 weeks left until vacation, I can't wait, it has been extra hard at work lately because everyone is stressed by feeling the pinch of cash and a lot of staff are leaving for higher paying jobs elsewere because they really need the money. This in turn stresses everyone else out because they have to work harder and are also trying to train new people that doesn't happen overnight.

The day off...at last.

Schools out for summer

The kids only have 2 days left of school here, they are getting excited to be finished, the year went by so fast but we were so busy with activities I thing everyone is glad to have the year come to an end. Next year Jay will be heading off to Jr. High so it will be a little different for the other two not having him around to count on, but I'm sure they will all be fine.

Well what a busy day today the heat finally hit here so after a fun afternoon at the beach, a fantastic BBQ we decided to get the kids Pool out and get it set up. Renovation Burn-out

I am getting so tired of renovations, we moved into our house 11 1/2 months ago and I haven't stopped renovating yet. Everyday I come home from work and have to renovate something. I have been working on drywalling a room and it feels like I have been working on it for weeks. I put the last coats of fill on last night and am just waiting for it to dry. Once that is done I can get some paint on the walls and get that finished up. Protecting the Witness

TV viewers are in for a treat this summer with the lunch of a USA Network's new original series In Plain Sight, not your ordinary Crime Drama, Plain site follows the story of Mary and Marshall as they work to protect people in the "Witness Protection Program". This might seem easy but Mary must keep her "Job" secret from her family so as not to endanger or worry them. It sets up for many interesting story lines as Mary and Marshal work to protect not only hard criminals but also innocent witness to crimes. The show airs on the USA network on Sunday Night, starting June 1st, if you missed the premier episode you can get caught up by watching the premier episode on the USA networks website right now. Out of all the characters in the show I would say I relate most to Marshall as he is dedicated to his work and seems to know a little bit about almost everything a "Jack of all Trades" so to speak. I am constantly working on little things all over the place and learning how to do the basics in everything. Watching the premiere it looks like this will be one of the best shows on tv this summer.

Renovation heaven

We are working hard on getting our room all done for summer so we can focus on spending time with the kids in the great outdoors. We are currently getting ready to get the electrical work done. In the coming weeks we will be working on the ceiling, floor and finishing the walls. It will be great when it's all finished.

Last Minute Vacation

Wouldn't it be a wonderful thing to be able to travel the world, without a care in the world be able to pick up on the drop of a dime and take off. For so many of us this is only a dream and we believe it could never happen. Just imagine flying off to the UK and traveling through all the beautiful old cities and taking in the culture from a different country. I've often day dreamed of taking a trip to London to have a carefree vacation with just my wife and me. We could take in some of the great theatre shows like the popular Lion King or Mama Mia. When we are finished with that we could take in the panaoramic views of London on top of the London Eye, I hear it is a fantastic way to take in the sites from a different perspective. I've always seen the double decker buses in the movies and thought it would be so exciting to travel on the top level and cruice around one of the scenic tours. Another fantastic site to checkout would be Royale Palace home to the royal family, being from Canada we are somewhat disassociated with the true legend of the royal family but I think it would still be very interesting to take a tour. It would be a real treat to see all the fantastic art and historic artifacts that are on display there. Where would you travel to if you had the opportunity to travel anywhere you would like to go on the drop of a hat. Planning ahead isn't always the cheapest way to travel sometimes you can get fantastic last minute hotel rooms and travel packages. If everything isn't booked you can save a lot of money by going last minute. Of course this type of travel isn't for everyone but if you are of the fly by the seat of your pants adventourous type this can be a fantastic opportunity for you to save and make fantastic memories

How Long is too long to Race

Coming up this Sunday is the Coca Cola 600 at Lowe's motor speedway, what will happen in this event, will we see an unlikely winner like last years Jamie McMurray or will one of the most consistant Lowe's drivers, convienently Jimmy Johnson who's sponsor is Lowe's return to victory Lane? The big question why do we need to see a 600 mile race. I'm a huge Nascar fan but to sit and watch 5-6 hours of racing is a bit much. Wouldn't it be something in face of the energy crisis we are all in if in good faith they shortened every Nascar race by 100 miles. How much gas would this save, 43 super stock cars. This would shorten the races considerably and no doubt increase attendance both at the track and at home on the TV as people are time starved and sometimes can't handle that much.

Doing the sun dance

Tommorrow is going to be hot and sunny, perfect weather for me, I have a couple of outdoor projects that need finished and I'm planning on getting going first thing in the morning. I have 2 doors to paint and we are painting burgandy, the girl at the Depot was shaking her head in disbelief at our plan. She claims it is very hard to paint with this color but we want to match our shutters so there isn't much choice on that one. I have been waiting all week to get at it because it is going to take at least a couple of days to get the job done because the dry time for the paint is approx 12 - 16 hours between coats so really only 1 coat a day is realistic. I'm going to get up at the crack of crow tommorrow and get them washed down with the cleaner and taped before the kids go to school and hoping with any luck they will be dry and ready to paint when I get back from dropping them off.
