Chase Tightens

Well here we are it's now Friday and on Track activities are heating up at Texas Motor Speedway. The Chase is down to 3 drivers, 3 races and let the best (or luckiest) team win. We did see some momentum swing last week at Talledaga but not the big swing many expected. The save of the week would have to go to the 29 team who got wrecked, saved the car and perservered to almost win, settleing for second place. A shame with the win the top 3 would be within 23 points of each other now that would be really exciting for the hype of this week. We will have to see where the teams are after Sunday to see if there can be any excitement for the last 2 weeks of the season.

Poised for the three peat

After watching the Nascar Sprint Cup event from Pheonix this weekend it was embarassing watching Jimmie Johnson take the rest of the field to school and totally dominate. It's almost like watching a bike race with the field riding around on pedal bikes and 1 star zooming through on a motor bike. Jimmie can do basically anything he wants at this point and no one can touch him. To listen to him complain about a 15th place finish last week sets the tone of how much his team has come to expect from performance. Next week we will see the formality of JJ running around the track for a while, most likely dominating the field and claiming his 3rd championship in a row. Sorry guys you all need to pick it up to be even close to the performance of this team

The Chase is On

The Chase for the Sprint Cup in Nascar's top division is heating up with 3 drivers making a serious run for the title. Carl Edwards and Jimmie Johnson have been sharing the top spot the last few weeks and great runs by Greg Biffle have brought him within striking distance. The biggest surprise of the whole chase so far is the self destruction for the 18 team of Kyle Busch the class of the field up until the playoffs started. Who will be standing tall at Homestead in November tune in to watch.

How Long is too long to Race

Coming up this Sunday is the Coca Cola 600 at Lowe's motor speedway, what will happen in this event, will we see an unlikely winner like last years Jamie McMurray or will one of the most consistant Lowe's drivers, convienently Jimmy Johnson who's sponsor is Lowe's return to victory Lane? The big question why do we need to see a 600 mile race. I'm a huge Nascar fan but to sit and watch 5-6 hours of racing is a bit much. Wouldn't it be something in face of the energy crisis we are all in if in good faith they shortened every Nascar race by 100 miles. How much gas would this save, 43 super stock cars. This would shorten the races considerably and no doubt increase attendance both at the track and at home on the TV as people are time starved and sometimes can't handle that much.

All Star Weekend

It's one of Nascar's greatest weekends coming up at the Lowe's motor speedway in Charlotte. Defending All Star Champion Kevin Harvick is looking to repeat again and he deserves it as it has been 1 year since his last win. Let's all pull for Kevin to have a little luck on his side this weekend and get back to Victory Lane with the cool 1 million dollar check. Get ready for your Nascar fix this Saturday night, sit back get some snacks and get ready for some wide open non points win or wreck it attitude of racing.

The Cheat is ON

I was surprised when I heard the Nascar News that Carl Edwards would be docked 100 points because the oil cap wasn't attached to his car post race last weekend at Las Vegas. It brings the term cheater out to this team that has been the most successful so far this year. I'm not sure what competitive advantage this could give the team and I'm eager to hear the appeal take on this. I would think it would be more of a hazard than anything driving around without a cover to the oil which if I remember right is almost directly behind the driver's seat. I don't think anyone at Roush would be risking Carl's life for a little competive advantage for the car. Nascar get with it the penalties are too much too often. It's taking away from the entertainment of great races this year.
